Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season!  In addition to the holidays and the New Year as of December 20th Blum turned 9!  It’s hard to believe that as we embark on a new year that also means that I’m approaching a decade in business.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me, and Blum, through the years.  I applied for my first job in a flower shop because I thought it would be fun to play with flowers but I decided to make floristry my career because of the people I meet and the stories that are now a part of my life thanks to this job.

2014 was our busiest ever at Blum!  We provided flowers for 92 weddings as well as countless office parties, meetings, baby showers, birthdays and dinner parties.  One of the best parts of being a Portland wedding florist is getting to explore some of the Pac NW’s gorgeous locations.  From Silcox Hut atop Timberline Lodge to Fort George Brewery in Astoria to Mount Hood Organic Farms in Hood River and Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon the Blum van hit the highways for “mini destination weddings” almost every weekend this summer. Among those 92 weddings, this fall I was fortunate to provide flowers for two good friends of mine.  Jessica Hill (talented local photographer) married her sweetheart in September and one of my oldest and dearest friends married her “favorite teammate” in October in Carmel, California.  Being involved with both was a wonderful reminder of just how special and emotional weddings are and was an incredible way to end the 2014 “season.”

In late June we were honored to once again be named Best Florist in Portland by Oregon Bride Magazine.  Portland is truly bursting at the seams with talented floral designers so to be given this honor by our peers is really overwhelming.  We were also lucky to have a few photo shoots last fall that are featured in the winter editions (out now) of both Oregon Bride Magazine and Portland Bride and Groom.

I finished out the 2014 year by holding a sock drive.  My original goal was 100 pairs of socks to be donated to the Portland Rescue Mission in Old Town.  We collected that many socks the first week so I raised it to 500 pairs!  We ended up collecting over 620 pairs of socks!  Thank you so, so much to everyone who donated!  Your kind hearts will not only warm the feet of some of our neighbors in need but also warmed MY heart with your generosity.

We’re currently busy booking weddings for the 2015 season.  If you have a date selected please do not delay in scheduling an appointment to talk flowers as weekends are beginning to close up.

Looking forward to 2015 I’m eager to see what the year will bring… what highs and lows, what changes and what challenges.  Cheers to you and yours, may the new year bring you much peace, love and happiness!
